What is LPR (license-plate recognition) and why does it matter for site security?
License-plate recognition (LPR) is automated optical capture of every vehicle's license plate as it crosses a defined ingress lane. On a Houston jobsite, LPR is the single highest-leverage deterrent: when a live agent can call out a vehicle by plate during talkdown, attempted intrusions end at a dramatically higher rate. LPR also produces the plate-resolved vehicle evidence that HPD and insurance carriers want.
How does LPR actually work on a security trailer?
A dedicated LPR camera is angled at each ingress lane. As a vehicle crosses, on-device computer vision extracts the plate characters, captures a context image, and logs the event with timestamp and direction (in/out). Modern LPR systems read accurately at vehicle speeds up to 40 mph in most lighting conditions, including IR-illuminated after-dark capture.
Why is it the single best deterrent?
Because anonymity is the bad actor's only real asset. When a live monitoring agent talks down a suspect by saying "the black F-150 with plate ABC-1234, leave the site now" — the suspect knows the vehicle is identified, the plate is recorded, and the dispatch will include the plate. Most attempts end immediately.
